Size Does Matter

Most clothes are cut for a hypothetical model, unfortunately we all were not as blessed to posses such features. Knowing this, it’s no surprise that most men’s wear does not flatter those of us who may be taller, shorter, thinner, or heavier than the model that specific brand was made for. Majority of us would do far better having our clothing adjusted properly cut and proportioned in order to enhance any man’s appearance. While it is true that certain bodies clash with certain articles of clothing, by no means does one’s body type confine him to a particular style or image. What most men fail to realize is that the key to dressing well is discovering those particular clothing sizes and shapes that work for your body, and then complimenting that with the proper accessories.


Designers bombard us (the public) with images of brutally attractive models striking enviable poses. By objective standards, these may be too loose or too tight, excessively short or top-heavy, or otherwise unbalanced for the normal man. Models have jobs because they look good in anything, period. Trendy designer clothes only look good on you and I because they evoke the beautiful people on billboards and magazine spreads. When people tastes change (which is inevitable) in a few years or a single season, those who paid full price for designer clothes at the pentacle of their heights are just left with expensive clothes. One thing you must understand is that styles rotate because they are usually part of trends. But how much wiser is the man who buys clothes that are right for him, and wears them confidently knowing his style transcends the pettiness of fashion. What type of man do you want to be?

The Fitting Chart!

The Shoulders: Your jacket should not drape passed the shoulder line seam, nor stop short before your shoulders brake. Notice that your jacket should fall where your shoulders ends.


The Seat: Your pants should not crunch between your thighs. That is a sure sign that your pants are too small for you. They also should not be below your waist line. Saggy dress pants or any pants at that is a fashion negative. Do you ever have a crunch in the front of your pants or the side? That's because your pants are a size or two bigger than they need to be. This creates a bulge look. Your pants should not come past you belly button. Your pants should lay straight down with NO crunch or bulge.

The Jacket Closure: Your suit Jacket should not fit with out any definition. The way your body curves is the way your jacket should hug your body. When your jacket looks wrinkled that means it is too small for you. Notice it should hug your body not squeeze.

Look like a Million Bucks!

Every suit you wear should fit you as if it was perfectly made for you body structure. This can be done with out spending all of your savings. You can make a $200.00 suit look like it cost thousands.  The key is finding a good Tailor!

7 Tips you need to know before wearing a suit!

1. Shoulder pads end with your shoulders.

2. Your flat hand should slip easily into your suit under the lapels when the top (or middle) button is fastened. If you put a fist in, the suit should pull at the button.

3. The top button of a two-button suit or the middle button of a three-button suit should not fall below your navel.

4. With your arms at your sides, your knuckles should be even with the bottom of your jacket.

5. Jacket sleeves should fall where the base of your thumb meets your wrist.

6. Between a quarter and a half inch of shirt cuff should be visible.

7. Your pants should fall one inch of break from your shoes.

A Night out on the Town!

Tip #1. Look and smell clean. The five o'clock shadow is ok if it fits you. Use cologne sparingly, check under your fingernails for dirt. There is nothing worse then a man with dirty fingernails.


Tip #2. Dress in layers. Try a collared shirt, either button-down or polo, beneath a casual jacket. Or wear a T-shirt under a crew or V-neck sweater. There are spring /summer sweaters, so you won’t have to worry about sweating all evening. A mock or full turtleneck can also look stylish. Throw in some casual shoes/sneakers with this combination, and you will definitely set your self apart form others.

Tip #3. Experiment with how close-fitting your shirts, pants and sweaters are. Too fitting can give off the wrong impression. Same rule applies as well if too loose.

Tip #4. Wear jeans, khakis or slacks, depending on how casual the outing is. Flat-front pants look more casual than those with pleats. Pleats have also become obsolete FYI. Unless your going for the 1975 Wall street look.

Tip #5. Remember that pants should be long enough to drape comfortably over the tops of your shoes without scraping the ground. If you are wearing a nice pair of pants/jeans why ruin the bottom because you have been walking on them all night. Plus you will avoid looking like your going to your last period class in High School.

Tip #6. Select socks tastefully: If you insist on wearing white athletic socks rather then some sort of unique design, at least don’t wear them with a non-sneaker shoes. Here is some advice, a man’s socks say a lot about his personality. As minute as socks may be, they are definitely a difference maker.
